  • Discounts and deals on accessories, components and bikes from our sponsor The Cyclist.

Membership in OC Velo is by invitation. If you want to join, you must successfully complete three organized club rides and have the Ride Coordinator recommend which Rider Group best matches your level of fitness and skills.

In case of an emergency, everyone participating in one of the organized Club rides must carry valid forms of identification such as a driving license and health insurance card.

Organized Club rides are typically:

A1 and A2 Groups - 60+ miles

B Group - 45+ miles

C Group - 30 - 40 miles

Anyone wishing to participate in an organized Club Ride, or one of the weekday rides, MUST wear a proper cycling helmet. If you show up for a ride without a helmet, you won't be able to ride with us.

To participate in any organized Club or weekday rides, you MUST wear a proper cycling helmet on your head (not wrapped around the handlebars!) and use a bike with multiple gears (no fixies, single-speed or track bikes). If you choose to use a triatholon bike, refrain from using the drop handlebars during Club rides.

We expect all Club Members to constantly be mindful of safety on every ride. For example:

  • Point out all road debris and objects through the pace line front to rear.
  • Maintain a steady line and avoid any sudden movements.
  • DO NOT split lanes and ride between slow moving or stopped vehicles.
  • Ride no faster than conditions safely allow.
  • Avoid wheel overlap.
  • Alert other riders if you are slowing or stopping.
  • DO NOT use headphones on any organized Club rides.

The OC Velo Board takes safety seriously enough that a Member may be asked to leave the Club if they persist in riding in a manner that puts other riders in jeopardy.

The Club normally develops a new kit every other year to accommodate sponsor changes and manufacturer availability. When you're invited to join, you can purchase a kit within two weeks, if your sizes are available. If not, the Club usually opens an ordering 'window' at certain times of the year based on demand.
